About Glasgow

Glasgow may not be the capital of Scotland, but it is the most populated and maybe the most dynamic Scottish city. Located near the river Clyde, Glasgow has built its reputation through trade and shipbuilding. It is now known for its Victorian architecture although, compared to Edinburgh, a lot influenced by its industrial past.

Glasgow is a city of numerous districts. There is of course, the city center, which is the most interesting for its shopping, however, it is not my favorite.

Glasgow - My favorite districts

Merchant city, a district located at the east of the city center also has some great shops, but the streets are less populated and you can find some cool places to have a drink such as Merchant Square. The park of Glasgow Green is not far from this district as well, which is a perfect place on a sunny day.

The West End is to me the best place in Glasgow, it is a very dynamic and beautiful borough with a lot to see. You should definitely visit the University of Glasgow, which is free to visit, opened to non-students and looks a lot like Hogwarts. Kelvingrove museum is a free museum which exposes numerous and very diverse exhibitions, from French art to life-size animals reconstitutions.

If you want to move away from the city, even for a second, you should check out Kelvingrove park and the Botanic Gardens. Moreover, the West end is the perfect place if you like vintage shopping, cute coffee shops, trendy bars and offers a lot of restaurants options!

Glasgow - Nights out

What is interesting in Glasgow is the musical scene. Most of the international artists performing European tours will stop in Glasgow, which gives you the opportunity to see lives performances every week! You can also find numerous pubs, bars and clubs for all tastes and scenes, making it perfect for nights out!

Here are some of my favorite pubs and bars:

  • Sloane's bar
  • Waxys O'Connell
  • Wetherspoons
  • Social
  • Campus

Don't hesitate to follow my Pinterest page to see more photos about the trips!
