A day on the isle of Arran

Hiking trail on the Isle of Arran

About the Isle of Arran

The isle of Arran is a splendid island located on the South-West of Glasgow. It is the largest island in the Firth of Clyde, although a sparsely populated one (there is about 5,000 residents).

Isle of Arran - How to get there from Glasgow?

The journey to go to the isle of Arran is accessible and quite easy from Glasgow. A fair amount of trains go directly to Ardrossan Harbour from Glasgow Central every day, taking less than an hour. After getting off the train, you will see the harbour about 100m away, where you can go straight to the boat that will take you to Brodick. Be careful, there is only a few boats per day, so don't miss it!

If you don't know what to see there without a car, no worries I got you…

Isle of Arran - What to do?

  • Go golfing
  • Visit the Brodick castle and its garden
  • Visit the Brewery (near the castle)
  • Go the the beach
  • Go hiking. If you decide to go, make sure to stop by the tourism office after getting off the boat. The staff will offer you some maps and guide you through the type of hike you want to do. I also suggest to prepare your lunch in advance because once you get away from Brodick, it will be very difficult to find somewhere to eat.

Even though a day on the isle of Arran is already amazing, if you can, try to spend a few days there. you will have the chance to better explore the island and go on longer hikes which are worth it.

PS: just a wee tip, make sure to take a windbreaker with you since the weather in Arran is a bit unpredictable…
